Indigenous Research Methods and Cannabis

Indigenous Research Methods and Cannabis

theoretic framework

Scientific literature is dominated by Western methods of research encoded as “the scientific method”. The indigenous African research methods are notably absent as if the African natives are devoid of the methodological conceptualisation of knowledge. In this scholarly paper, we describe the indigenous methods of knowledge production in the domain of traditional medicine plants including the cannabis plant that has been used over centuries as a rich and biodiverse source of phytochemicals like flavanoids in the therapeutic; cleansing and nutritional medicine. We show that it is possible to hybridise the scientific method and the indigenous methods to produce new knowledge drawing from the taxa of existing extraction methods; discursive schemata and African metaphysics to contribute novel ideas to enhance the therapeutic experience of modern society.

  1. Can we have more please, we are still using Western methods to “affirm” indigenous knowledge, it cannot be correct. We are perpertuating the notion that has existed in our social spaces for too long that indigenous or African knowledge is inferior and I want to be part of the people who change this notion/narrative

    1. The great African Scientist Dr. Ntsoaki,

We feel greatly honoured by your erudite remarks that we should be the change agents that change the narrative from inferiority to transcendence. I couldn’t agree more with those sentiments! After all, the African Natives are the inventors of Organic Chemistry! In the book Kgolaboloko: African Roots of Cosmic Genesis we describe the indigenous use of hydrocarbons by the Basotho obstetricians of Azania (South Africa) to expedite the healing of the Mosotho mother after birth long before the advent of colonisation. We are the inventors of Mathematical Sciences. In the books: Sesotho Dictionary of Mathematics; African Origin of Mathematics and The Sacred Knowledge of the Desert: African Philosophical Transcendence we provide the uncontested facts about those inventions of African origin drawing from African Metascience; African Metaphysics and African Cosmology.

Ka Sesotho, Thari e tla lokiswa ke rona ba amehang! Le ha moloko wa batubi o kare “Nkang senotlolo ke sena hotlamolla kgatello. Relesitetswe! Reyaqodisa!”. Rona re tshwanela honka senotlolo seo resechwatle! Ebe bare “Leyahlanya! Re lefa senotlolo? Lona leya sechwatla?”.

Ebe rona rere “Reyahlanya vele! Hare batle hokena ka ditsela tsa lona! Re batla hokena ka ditsela le mawa a Thari ya rona hobane hare kena ka ditsela tsa lona, le tla ngola ka rona le re soma le re: ‘Shem skepsele bane bahloleha hotswa ditlamong yaba reya ba hauhela ka hobafa senotlolo'”.

Katsela ejwalo, moloko o tlang otlareng? Otlare reba rekisitse.

Haeyo ntho ejwalo! Lekgale! Baile bahloleha ka dinako tsa Mandela. Rona ba amehang retshwanela hoema ka maoto hoitukisetsa. Basotho ba kgale bare “Ntho tse ntle diyaiketsetswa”. Thokoza Makhosi!

Ngesizulu. Umbeleko uzawulungiswa yithina abathintekayo. Uma abagqindezeli basinika ingidi bathi: “Thathani! Siniwonele! Siyaxolisa!”. Fanele thina siyithathe lengidi siyiphule. Bethe bona bathi “Niyahlanga! Sininika ingidi? Nina niyaiphula?”.

Bese thina sithi: “Siyahlanya vele! Asifuni ukungena ngendlela zenu! Sifuna ukungena ngendlela zethu. Uma singena ngendlela zenu nizosigxeka nibhale ngathi nithi: ‘Shem skepsele! Babehluleka, sabahawukela!’. Intanga ezayo, izothini mayivivinya isigaba somlando wethu? Bazothi sibadayisile! Vele sizabesibadayisile! Ngaleyondlela, asifuni ukungena ngendlela yenu. Sifuna ukungena ngendlela zethu”.

Siyenzela ukuthi labo abelzayo babone indima yethu bakwazi ukuthi: “Noma bengaphakathi kwengomane yengqindezelo engaka, kodwa indima yabo siyayibona. Siyayiamukela lendima. Sizoyithuthukisela abazayo ngemvakwethu ukuze nabo bayenzele abazayo”.

Ngaphezukwaloko! Umasilinde umlungu ukuzoxolisa nokulungisa izinto kungeke kwenzeke! Ayikho lendaba! Neze! Bahluleka ngesikhathi sika Mandela! Thina abathintekayo kuphoqelekile ukuthi sime ngeyinyawo sinzenzele. Vukazenzele! Isaga sesisuthu sithi “Izinto ezinhle ziyenzwa ngabanini bazo”.

      Tsamaroko! Ezamathongo! Thokoza Makhosi!
